This new facility in North Adams, MA would serve as dining area for a hotel’s breakfast service, as well as an intimate space for events such as weddings or live performances.
Our project designer delved into issues of materiality, scale, and program to generate several unique schemes to present to the client. Images of some Schematic designs are shown below.
As we progressed into Design Development, we began collaborating with a New England timber framer to design an interior engineered wood structure that would serve as a skeleton over which the building’s metal shingle skin would be draped.
The scale and fenestration pattern of the street façade echo the surrounding residential neighborhood, but the overall building form is inspired by the curves and rich textures of the natural world.
