Nate Lumen

Intern-Architect

Nate has been part of the C&H team since 2019 where he employs his experience in social science, solar technology, business management, construction, and agriculture. He recently received his Master of Architecture degree from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

Nate’s interest in architecture began in his undergraduate social science education and is grounded in his reverence for the natural world. After graduating from Skidmore College in 2010, Nate pursued work in organic agriculture both as a way of addressing climate change and to learn skills that were hard to come by in the classroom. Working with farmers throughout the Northeast, Nate learned to drive horses, fell trees, grow food, and care for animals. In this work, he also developed carpentry skills and broadened his interest in place-making.

Nate returned to school in 2018 to pursue a career in ecological architecture. He is excited about historic retrofits, natural materials and ecocentric design. Nate was born in Rochester, NY but has called the Pioneer Valley home since 2013. When not at C&H, Nate is probably cooking a meal with friends, gardening, tinkering, or riding his bike. He lives with his wife and daughter in Deerfield.
