Friedman Housing Complex

Built on a previously developed but verdant corner of the Smith College campus, the buildings are designed to harmonize with the surrounding landscape. All feature floor to ceiling windows and clerestories that invite abundant natural light and views into living spaces.

Each of the ten units contains four single bedrooms centered around a communal kitchen and bath core, for a campus living experience more akin to an urban flat than a traditional dormitory.

As Associate Architect to Seattle’s Olson Kundig Architects, C&H played a vital role in bringing this project to realization. From Schematic Design through Construction Administration, C&H worked closely with Olson Kundig Architects, Smith College Committee & Facilities, and the construction team, to orient and streamline the complex interdisciplinary goals of this project.
