Rocky Hill Cohousing Wins Smart Growth Award

At a ceremony at Holyoke Community College, Rocky Hill Cohousing was given a Smart Growth Award for Excellence in Projects to Protect Environment, Conserve Energy, Reduce Pollution.

The first of what was to become an annual award was presented by the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission, the Valley Development Council, the Home Builders Association of Western Massachusetts, the Western Mass Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, and the Massachusetts Smart Growth Alliance. The competition was established to recognize developments in the region that promote higher density, walkability, infill and reuse, affordable housing, and environmental protection. Award criteria included location, density/design/diversity, affordability, environment, community assets, and participation.

C&H Architects designed the project, Kohl Construction was the builder and co-developer, and the Rocky Hill Cohousing group acted as resident/developers. There to accept the award were Bruce Coldham and Tom Hartman of C&H Architects.
